Local train fares are not that expensive, but long distance transportation costs a lot in Japan.
A one-way shinkansen ticket costs at least 10,000 yen, so to save your money, make sure to get railway passes for foreign travelers like JR Passes to save your money.

Use LCC aircrafts

You might want to use airplanes to travel around Japan; especially  if you don’t really like trains.
However, taking regular aircrafts like ANA and JAL will cost a lot. You might want to use LCC instead.

The best LCC aircrafts to use are Jetstar and Air Asia, but if you’re low in budget, you might want to use Solaseed Air or Peach!

Stay at a guest house

Instead of staying at a hotel, stay at a guest house to save more money on accommodations.
Unlike airbnb facilities and other vacation houses, guest houses are usually fully equipped and have staff who standby for 24/7.

Price per night at a guest house varies, but expect to pay somewhere in between 3000 yen to 7000 yen per night.

Buy souvenirs for your family back home at 100 yen or 300 yen store.
At these stores you can find many cute and beautiful souvenirs sold at a very reasonable price.

Our favorite 100 yen stores are Daiso, Seria, Flying Tiger Coppenhagen, and Natural Kitchen (for tableware & kitchenware).
For 300 yen shop, we strongly recommend visiting 3coins for its cute and adorable items!

Purchase discounted food

Try to visit department stores and supermarkets after 8.p.m., when all food items are sold at a discounted price.
The amount of the discount varies, but usually ranges from 20% to 50% off.

The reasons why these foods are discounted is because Japanese department stores and supermarkets only sells freshly made foods everyday,
so they have to sell all food items before they close the facilities.
