Haunted drive-in opens up in Japan this summer!
Jul 01, 2020
A lot of things have to shut down to stop the spread of COVID-19, and this includes shopping malls, movie theaters, concert venues, theme parks, and of course, haunted houses / escape rooms. However, if you reside in Japan, you’d be able to enjoy the summer thrill by visiting “Drive-in Obakeyashiki”, the world’s first drive-in haunted house created by a Japanese horror event planner and producer called Kowagarasetai.
What is “Drive-in Obakeyashiki”?
“Drive-in Obakeyashiki”, which literally means drive-in haunted house, is a haunted garage located in Higashi Azabu, a fancy neighborhood of Tokyo. According to the event’s backstory, a long time ago, a horrible incident happened in the garage, and people say if you park your car in it and honk the horn for three times, something scary will happen.
What makes this attraction amazing is that you can enjoy it without having any contacts with the casts, since you’ll be staying inside a car. The story details will play over your car’s radio, allowing you to experience some serious “Fatal Frame” vibes. Scary creatures like those who appear in Juon or The Ring will attack your car randomly – banging your car’s windows, clinging their bodies on your car’s windshield, or leaving bloody fingerprints on your car.
No car or driver’s license required!
In keeping with the event’s social distance regulations, all visitors must stay inside a vehicle.
However, if you don’t have a car or a driver’s license, you still can enjoy the drive-in haunted house event, as it will be held for two days in a row from July 4 (12:00 – 19:30) to July 5 (11:00 – 18:30).
Those with cars and driver’s licenses can come on the first day. The pricing is 8,000 yen per vehicle, and it covers everyone inside the car.
Non car-owners shall come on the second day as parked vehicles will be available for walk-up guests to sit in, and the pricing is 9,000 yen per vehicle, with maximum capacity of four guests per car. The parked vehicles will be disinfected thoroughly between sessions, and each car will only be used for guests arriving in the same group.
The event also offers a post-ride photo shoot service for 1,500 yen only, so how about spending few minutes to flex for the gram before you leave the attraction?
Enjoy the thrill without exposing yourself to COVID-19!
In order to make sure the attraction is safe from COVID-19, all performances will be done outside the vehicle, so the guests will have no contact with the casts. The staff will also disinfect the parked vehicles thoroughly between sessions, and strict measures will be enforced at the entrance of the attraction to make sure that there will be no exposures to COVID-19.
