Five important items to bring when traveling to Japan
Nov 26, 2019
Although Japan is known for its great convenience stores, which are open for 24 hours, there are some items that are hard to find in Japan.
For those of you who are going to Japan, don’t forget to bring these items to enjoy your trip to Japan even more!
Cash and debit cards
Don’t forget to bring cash in yen and a debit card when you go to Japan, because not all shops in Japan accept credit cards as a payment.
Exchange your cash to yen before leaving for Japan, because the exchange rate at the airport and Japanese money changers is relatively lower than other countries.
It’s even better if you can bring a debit card that has VISA or Mastercard logo.
With an international debit card, you can withdraw yen in cash at ATMs in Japan, although there will be a small administrative fee.
You can also withdraw yen in cash with your international debit card at the post office ATM or convenience stores.
Pocket mobile Wi-Fi
Don’t forget to rent a pocket mobile wi-fi during your vacation in Japan, because not all facilities in Japan offer free Wi-Fi.
You can rent a pocket mobile Wi-Fi from tour agents in your country or in Japan.
With the mobile Wi-Fi, you can use a smartphone to communicate with family and friends back home, as well as find a way to use Google Maps if you are lost in Japan.
Power bank
Traveling in Japan is fun and exciting, especially as long as your gadget has enough battery and access to the internet.
Don’t forget to bring your power bank when you are on vacation in Japan, because not all cafes or restaurants in Japan provide access to their electrical sockets.
Plug adapter
Don’t forget to bring a plug adapter, the electric socket in Japan is different from the electric socket in other countries.
Electrical sockets in Japan are called type A sockets, which can only be used by flat pin cables.
Besides that, the electricity voltage in Japan is 100V, so not all of your electronic goods can be used in Japan.
But don’t worry because most electronic gadgets like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and digital cameras are on average equipped with features that can adjust to any country’s electrical voltage (100V ~ 240V).
Sneakers
You will walk a lot in Japan, so shoes that are comfortable to wear are one of the things you should carry on your vacation to Japan.
Besides walking a lot, in Japan you will take off your shoes a lot, because basically in Japan it is forbidden to use shoes to enter homes in Japan.
In addition, many Izakaya in Japan forbid visitors from entering without removing shoes, so we recommend bringing slip on sneakers that are comfortable and easy to take off.
Personal medicine
We recommend that you bring personal medicines during your vacation in Japan, especially if you have diseases such as asthma, allergies, and high blood pressure.
In addition we also recommend to bring general medicines such as cold medicine, ibuprofen, eye drops, band aids, and cotton.
