Wisteria is another popular spring flower in Japan besides cherry blossoms and moss phlox,
and its long strings of flowers that come in various colors mesmerize people by its mysterious beauty and fragrance.
Today we introduce some of the best spots to enjoy tunnels of wisteria reasonably in Tokyo and surrounding.
Kameido-tenjin Shrine in Tokyo
Kameido-tenjin Shrine is located in East Tokyo, and known for its wonderful view of wisteria since the Edo period.
Open to public for free, over 100 trees of wisteria start blooming here from late April.
Located just a 15-minute walk from JR Kameido Station on the Sobu Line, Kameido-tenjin is definitely worth a visit if you only stay in Tokyo for a short period of time!

Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi
Located in Tochigi prefecture, Ashikaga Flower Park is probably one of the best and most popular spots for wisteria in Japan.
Over 350 wisterias bloom in miscellaneous colors around the park from mid-April to mid-May.
The park is known for its grand wisteria aged over 130 years and its 80m-long tunnel of white flowers, which cannot be found in other spots.
Easily accessible from Tokyo, Ashikaga Flower Park is definitely worth a visit when you’re in Tokyo!

Yokosuka Shobu-en in Kanagawa

The park offers pleasant walkways in May with over 250 wisterias of 11 different species blooming in the park, creating non-trellis wisteria tunnels allowing you to enjoy the flowers at eye-level.
