“Cool Japan Award 2019” Winner
The color of the surface of each of the “Mikata Five Lakes”, the collective name given to Mikata Lake, Suigetsu Lake, Suga Lake, Kugushi Lake and Hiruga Lake, is slightly different because of their composition and depth, making for a very unique scenic spot.
On a cloudless day, the difference is very easy to tell!
Hot spring baths designed for soaking your feet are also available for visitors wishing to relax while admiring the beautiful nature surrounding them.
Did you know the Rainbow Line Summit Park earned a “Cool Japan Award 2019” for it?
A Million Dollar View of the Five Lakes of Mikata and the Sea of Japan!
From the Rainbow Line Summit Park, it is possible to catch a glimpse of the five lakes and the Sea of Japan, all at once! To get there, you can either use a cable car or a lift, or you can walk up a trail if you’re up to the challenge.
I have to admit I was a little scared of taking the lift at first, but the view you get while getting to the summit was definitely worth it in the end.
Make a Wish! Experience Japanese Traditions From the Top of a Mountain
There is a lot to do at the park while enjoying the breathtaking view.
You can take part in a tradition known as ‘kawarake’ cup tossing.
It is believed that once upon a time,a very powerful mountain goblin ―known as ‘tengu’ in Japanese― lived on this mountain and, though feared by the villagers, offered assistance to those in need.
If the kawarake cup is tossed high in the air while making a wish, they say the tengu might grant that wish!
