Nov 13, 2019
Walking along the street surrounded by ginkgo trees with their bright yellow leaves is one of the most wonderful moments to enjoy in Fall.
In this article, we would like to introduce you to the two best and easily accessible spots for ginkgo viewing in Tokyo.
1. Icho Namiki Dori
This is a street near “Meiji Jingu Gaien” park in the center of Tokyo. Icho Namiki Dori is a very popular spot for ginkgo viewing. Every year, there will be “Jingugaien Ginkgo Festival”, where you can enjoy the real Japanese “matsuri” surrounded by beautiful nature. Icho Namiki Dori is also incredibly easy to reach for! It is located near the all-time favorite tourist attractions: Omotesando and Harajuku.
The peak for ginkgo viewing is around the first week of November. But be sure to check the ginkgo forecast if you do not want to miss the chance to witness such beauty!
You can visit Icho Namiki Dori by taking the Tokyo Metro (Hanzomon line or Oedo line) and get off at “Aoyama-Itchome” station.
2. Tokyo University Hongo Campus
You may have heard of Tokyo University, or “Todai”, one of the most prestigious universities in Japan.
Apparently, the Hongo campus is famous for its ginkgo leaves, which are extremely gorgeous.
Getting off at “Todai-mae” station and entering through “Nou-seimon” gate, you will be welcomed by beautiful gingko trees and the university’s classic design buildings, where hundreds of people go to visit each Fall.
There is also another iconic attraction here, the clock tower, which has made its appearance in numerous Japanese manga.
You can go visit Tokyo University by taking the Tokyo Metro Namboku line.
