1. PayPay
PayPay is a mobile payment app created by PayPay Corporation, which is a joint venture of Softbank and Yahoo! Japan. The app was released in October 2018, and ever since then, many Japanese have used PayPay to make both online and offline payments through QR codes.
You can top up your PayPay account by connecting your PayPay account with your bank account or with your Yahoo! wallet accounts. You can also top it up by depositing cash into the ATM at the convenience stores.
2. LINE Pay
LINE Pay is a mobile payment system created by LINE and was released to the market in December 2014. LINE Pay supports QR code payment, and you can top up your LINE Pay account with a credit card, or you can purchase a virtual prepaid credit card called LINE Pay Card.
In addition to the QR code payment and virtual prepaid credit card, with LINE Pay, you can send money and split bills with your LINE friends through your mobile phone. You will also get LINE points for every transaction done with your account.
3. Rakuten Pay
Rakuten Pay is a mobile payment system created by Rakuten, a major e-commerce player in Japan, in October 2016. The app supports QR code payment, and you can link your mobile app with a credit card.
You can use Rakuten Pay at both online and offline shops, and if you’re a Rakuten member, you can gain reward points that you can use in any of Rakuten’s partner shops.

4. Apple Pay
Apple Pay, which Apple made in October 2016, is one of the most famous mobile payment apps. The app has an integrated NFC, and most Japanese use this app for commuting and small payments.
You can connect your electronic prepaid cards like SUICA, QUICPay, and ID to your Apple Pay, and you can link your credit card and use it as a source of funds.
