Visiting Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum and experiencing music box workshop

Dec 16, 2019

We had a chance to visit Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum last November when we visited Lake Kawaguchiko.

The Music Forest Museum is one-of-a-kind tourism spot in the area,
slightly strange but immensely popular among foreign visitors.

Built and dedicated to keep the automatic musical instruments collection from the European, the museum has a huge European-style gardens with views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi-ko.
The area also accommodates shops, restaurants, a chapel, rose garden, and a music hall.

Once you enter the area, you’d feel like you’re in a fairytale cottage.

The admission fee is 1800 yen per person, but we only paid 1500 yen per person because we used the discount coupon for tourists, distributed at Kawaguchi-ko Station.

Inside the main hall you can see a lot of European-style decorations and music boxes.

Outside the main hall there are a lot of photogenic spots for your Instagram.

The museum also has a souvenir shop where you can experience music box workshop.

You can make a musical snow dome or a wooden music box, and this time we decided to make a musical snow globe.

You can choose parts for your musical snow dome, and even though Halloween has passed, they still have Halloween-themed parts displayed at the shop.

Before started making the musical box, we had to choose the base for our snow dome and also the music for our musical box.

Can you guess what are we making?

We’re making Little Mermaid-themed musical snow dome! Yay! (sorry for the crazy pictures, we played too much).
We chose Ariel and whale as our parts, and also “Part of Your World” as our soundtrack.

We set the parts on the base using glue.

We closed the dome with a glass and waited for about 30 minutes until everything dried.

Usually it takes around an hour and a half to explore everything, but since we had the musical snow dome workshop, we ended up spending 3 hours here.
