The coolest digital art museum in Tokyo “teamLab”
Nov 19, 2019
You may have seen the innovative and artistic work of teamLab Singapore or their other temporary events in many places across Japan.
After being such a hit, teamLab finally opened its permanent museum in Tokyo. With thousands of Japanese and foreign visitors who come for stunning and super ‘instragrammable’ experiences, you can now enjoy the work from this place at 2 of their museums; teamLab borderless and teamLab Planets.
Although we do recommend you to book your tickets before going, as sometimes tickets can be sold out. The approximate time you need for this art museum is about 2 hours.
1. teamLab Borderless
teamLab Borderless can be considered as one of the first digital art museums in the world. It is located near VenusFort department store and the landmarkable Ferris Wheel of Odaiba.
There are 2 floors of their futuristic and innovative art that you can immerse yourself in, where each room has different themes and stories.
Some of the rooms may be a little bit hard to find, but it is the ‘uncertainty’ that is one of the teamLab’s greatest charms.
Now, many of you may be familiar with photos of dreamy flying white lamps.
This is a “forest of resonating lamps”, the most attractive and a must-see spot of teamLab Borderless. Also, there are a “flower forest” rooms and “the crystal world” room, which are equally popular among visitors for its vivid and dramatic lighting.
However, please note that usually there are long queues in front of these popular rooms.
2. teamLab Planets
teamLab Planets, which opened shortly after the teamLab Borderless, are located near Toyotsu station.
Some of the rooms, especially the popular ones, are the same as in teamLab Borderless but you can definitely enjoy unique experiences here too.
This place is a one-way route full of adventure that will let you experience your sensation.
There is a “Soft Black Hole” room where you will have to walk on a bean bag-like soft ground that will suck you down to the room below; “Expanding Three-dimensional Existence in Intentionally Transforming Space”.
Also, there is a space filled with giant pastel color balls that you can play with freedom and, of course, take nice photos with it. Another highlight here is a gigantic waterfall and a knee-deep wading pool with hundreds of digital koi fish and beautiful flowers.
For those of you who worry about getting your pants wet, do not be. teamLab Planets have short pants and towels lending services so that you can fully enjoy your experiences here!
