When you think of Fushimi in Kyoto, you might picture it as Japan’s leading sake-producing region. However, the sweets and desserts here are equally delightful! Today, we’ll introduce two must-visit shops when you come to Fushimi ♪

Fushimi Yume Hyakushu Cafe (伏見夢百衆)
“Yume Hyakushu” is a café that features sake from 17 different breweries in one location. You can sample various sake, making it perfect for those who want to compare different flavors. It’s a cozy atmosphere that’s popular with locals.

Fushimikagura Honten (伏水菓蔵本店)
If you’re feeling tired after touring sake breweries or strolling around the area, why not indulge in something sweet? Try the chewy and sticky dango at this shop! Their popular Mitarashi dango is coated in a sweet and savory sauce, with Fushimi-produced sake as a secret ingredient, resulting in an exceptionally rich flavor. If you’re near Kintetsu Nara Station, you’ve got to check out “Kirameki no Tamago (煌めきの卵).” They specialize in raw egg rice bowls, a beloved dish in Japan ‘Tamago Kake Gohan’!

Now, their Tamago Kake Gohan is something special way different from the simpler versions you might find back home. They use top-quality eggs from Oita Prefecture, which give the yolks a rich and firm texture. Plus, the egg white is whipped into the softest, fluffiest foam that just melts over the hot rice.
They also pick out the best ‘Katsuobushi’ and ‘Shoyu’ to complement the dish, making it a truly delightful experience. If you have a chance to visit Nara, you definitely shouldn’t miss it. 🦌
