Welcome to the October edition of Kintetsu Railway Monthly News, where we bring you the latest updates and exciting happenings in Japan!
Last October, we took everyone to visit the Katsuragi Plateau in Gosei City, where visitors could see the beautiful scenery of both Nara and Osaka in one view. We also took a cycling trip around Ise-Shima, conveniently accessible via Kintetsu’s “Cycle Train”, and finally, we took everyone to see the largest illumination event in Japan at the famous flower garden “Nabana no Sato”.
That’s not all, we took everyone to experience many more. Let’s see what interesting news from Kintetsu Railway in October is coming up ❤️
1.Katsuragi-kogen Highland [7 Oct 2024]
“Katsuragi-kogen Highland” in Gose City, Nara Prefecture, is on the summit of Mt. Katsuragi, which is 959 meters high, allowing you to see the scenery of Nara and Osaka in one shot.
While the view from the ropeway up to the summit is breathtaking, this autumn, near the summit, you can see the view of “Suzuki grasses” swaying in the wind, which is just as beautiful. Moreover, from October 1st to 31st, they held a festival called “Suzuki Matsuri” in Suzuki grass that starts to bloom and enters its most beautiful season.
In the next year, don’t forget to stop by and try the famous “Kamonabe” at the restaurant on the mountaintop.

How to get there: Transfer to the bus from Kintetsu Gosho Station for about 15 minutes, get off at Katsuragi Ropeway Station, and then transfer to the cable car to the top of the mountain.

2. Cycle around Ise-Shima and travel comfortably on the Kintetsu “Cycle Train” [16 Oct 2024]
“Ise-Shima Area” in Mie Prefecture is a place where everyone can experience Japanese culture and history and many leisure activities such as kayaking. Of course, everyone can enjoy various activities here, from children to adults.
Not only that, Ise-Shima has also been designated as “The Pacific Cycling Road”, a national cycling route! Whether you cycle seriously or leisurely, enjoy the beautiful sea view and stop by famous sightseeing spots, you can enjoy all kinds of cycling.
We have introduced “Cycle Train”, an environmentally friendly cycling train that is perfect for those who love cycling. You can conveniently bring a bicycle along on the train! So, don’t forget to be a part of the wind of Ise-Shima and cycle amidst this magnificent scenery.
3. The new tourist spot “SOWA” opens in Yoshino, Nara! [22 Oct 2024]
On Saturday, October 12, a new tourist spot “SOWA” opened in Kinpusenji Temple, Juhoden Building, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Omine Yoshino” being registered as a World Heritage Site.
“SOWA” is where many important historical figures have visited, and Yoshino is also a place of renewal. Therefore, you can relax, reflect on yourself in nature, meet new people, experience Yoshino’s history and culture, and learn more about nature. In addition, Kinpusenji Temple, Juhoden Building, is holding a special event called “Japan’s Largest Buddha Statue Exhibition.” The event will only be held until December 1st of this year.
So, why not visit Yoshino during the fall?

4. See the mystical illumination at Akame 48 Waterfalls [28 Oct 2024]
The 48 Waterfalls of Akame are considered one of the 100 famous waterfalls in Japan. Along the 4 km-long walking path, everyone can enjoy the beautiful valley and “Akame Kotaku Falls,” 5 main waterfalls that offer different beautiful feelings. Every year from autumn to winter, the night illumination event of about 2,000 bamboo trees “Yugen no Take Akari” is held inside the valley of the 48 Waterfalls of Akame. When you enter the valley, you will be greeted by beautiful bamboo trees, along with the light display area near the entrance of the valley. Of course, it is stunning and pleasing to the eyes. Everyone must come and see it!

5. The biggest illumination event in Japan at “Nabana no Sato” has begun! [30 Oct 2024]
The famous flower park “Nabana no Sato” in Mie Prefecture, where you can enjoy flowers and illuminations throughout the four seasons, has been holding its illumination event since October 19th. The spectacular view of romantic lights, including the unique water light display and the 200-meter-long glittering light tunnel, has been selected as one of the most beautiful views in the world. Furthermore, this year’s main venue will feature illuminations under the theme of “The Beauty of Mt. Fuji,” the symbol of Japan. “Mt. Fuji” will captivate people from all over the world, especially when combined with the dynamic light and sound display, making you feel like you have travelled to another world. So, everyone should come and experience this wonderfully romantic atmosphere!
